AETERNUS, founded by Ares in 1993 in Bergen, Norway, is a pioneer in the Dark Metal genre. It skillfully combines elements of Black Metal, Death Metal, classical music, and folk music. The band's unique sound is created through layers of excellent guitar playing and haunting, melodic interludes. The current lineup includes guitarist/vocalist Ares, guitarist Gorm, bassist Eld, and drummer Phobos, who are present or former members of well - known bands like Gorgoroth, Immortal (live), and Gaahls Wyrd. 'Philosopher' was recorded, produced, and mixed by the band and Herbrand Larsen at Conclave and Earshot Studios (associated with Immortal and Enslaved), and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studio (known for Bloodbath and Vomitory). The cover artwork, illustrations, and layout were crafted by Mar.A. (from Cultes Des Ghoules and Deus Mortem).
