Details

JOHAN G WINTHER, hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, is a highly talented musician. His extraordinary and greatly underrated rock band, SCRAPS OF TAPE, has released 7 albums. His blackened hardcore band, BLESSINGS, has put out 3 albums. Last March, his new post - rock outfit, BARRENS, dropped a stunning debut album that made it onto many 2020 year - end lists, including #7 on Where Postrock Dwells' Top Albums of the Year. 'The Rupturing Sowle' is his solo album, recorded in a small cabin in the Swedish woods during voluntary pre - corona isolation. Winther says, 'I became a father in 2010, and this life - changing event made me re - evaluate myself to the core and closely examine my life and experiences.' He also shares, 'I kept having parts of the same dream, and they gradually formed a kind of narrative. In the summer of 2012, we went to our cabin in central Sweden, and I started recording pieces to fit the story in my head. A key concept is the inborn duality of the human soul. I represented this on the album by presenting musical ideas and parts in pairs, with light and dark sides to create a constant sense of tension. It mixes beautiful and ugly sounds, sadness and joy, acoustic and electronic sounds.' This emotional duality and the wide variety of sounds and moods are what make The Rupturing Sowle unique, just like a great dish where contrasting flavors both oppose and complement each other. The cabin where Winther recorded most of the album is crucial for creating a special ambiance. He says, 'It's the place where I feel completely at home, always inspired and at ease. I re - amped several tracks and layers in the studio and kept all the chair creaks and floor plank sounds in the recordings. The sounds of the cabin and its surroundings became characters in my narrative. I recorded the open fire, the creaking jetty, bird songs, and eerie forest sounds at night and wrote the music around them.'

To enjoy Johan G. Winther's 'The Rupturing Sowle' album, simply play it on your preferred music player. You can listen to it in different settings, like at home while relaxing, in the car during a drive, or even in a quiet corner of a coffee shop. As there are various moods and sounds in the album, you might want to listen to it multiple times to fully grasp all the details and the story it tells. There aren't many specific precautions. Just make sure your audio equipment is working properly to get the best sound quality. Also, if you're sharing the music with others, be aware that the emotional depth might affect people differently. For maintaining your digital copy of the album, keep it backed up in a safe place, like an external hard drive or a cloud storage service. This way, you won't lose it if something happens to your primary device. If you have a physical copy, like a CD, store it in a cool, dry place to prevent scratches and damage.
