Los Huaycos Savage Monstrosites 12
  • Los Huaycos' Savage Monstrosities 12 - A Thrilling Punk Album

Details

The Story of Savage Monstrosities: In around June 2017, we planned to release this album as a cassette or a 7' if the audio length allowed. We talked to Javier from En Tu Kara, and he agreed to work with us on a lower budget than 'Ataque Bestial'. The 7' had a glue - pocket jacket with gold spot color, gold - splattered vinyl, and a glossy insert. Our idea was to find a cheaper pressing plant and use 'garbage vinyl' or black vinyl with the most affordable covers. For audio production, we had self - recorded all the songs on this album. Some of these demo recordings are used as background music in a couple of 'Huaycal Engineering' episodes. We debated whether to remix the existing recording by an engineer or re - record it entirely. At one point, we decided that if we could get the funds, we'd record with Greg again as he did a great job on our previous 7'. The debate was mainly due to lack of funds as the recording could be much better. In late August 2017, Ryan Glorioso from Paramount contacted us via our Bandcamp to be on a Netflix show called 13 Reasons Why. He found us through an article in The Bay Bridged 'Mixtape: New Directions in San Francisco Bay Area Punk'. They needed a punk band for an episode in season 2. We re - recorded a cover of Wild in The Streets (originally by Garland Jefferys, then covered by The Circle Jerks) and provided an original song 'Cerebro Vomitado' from our 7' recorded with Greg. Paramount needed us in the studio quickly to record the cover for an upcoming shoot. We first contacted Greg at Earhammer, but Mortuous had booked those days for their full - length recording. Tiny Telephone was also fully booked. Running out of time, we reached out to Jack Shirly at Atomic Garden, and luckily, he was available on the exact day we were! Usually booked months in advance, this was a huge relief. We finished the 'Wild In the Streets' song in one session in mid - September. While in the studio with him, we discussed the possibility of recording an album. We booked recording days in October 2017, and he sent us the album master in November 2017. Less than two weeks after receiving the master, in December, D'Arcy from Raw Head Records contacted us. He asked about the release of an LP, and things seemed to be going great. We sent the audio for test presses soon after. He was excited about working with us and loved the recording. Next was the artwork. We talked to Saw Blade, but the budget and time didn't work out. We then discussed different artists' work with D'Arcy. We had wanted Skinner to do the art for the previous 7' but he was too busy. We chose Luke Kislak from Eel because we loved his flyers, especially the one for our show at Skull Fest. By January 2018, we had a concept, agreed on the price, and Luke started working on it. He said the art would be ready in two weeks. We were okay with a longer time if needed, but by mid - March 2018, the test press was approved, and we still had no art. We found out he had been in a terrible accident and couldn't do the artwork. Since we wanted the album ready for 'A Varning From Montreal' festival in Canada, we quickly looked for other artists. We asked Skinner again as he was our first choice before and we had a closer relationship. He understood our situation and was willing to help. He had the art scanned and ready for us in less than a week! After that, it was time for the layout. The band got together a few times to work on it and sent the art to D'Arcy on March 22, 2018. In the next few weeks, we agreed on the vinyl colors. By late May, the pressing plant told D'Arcy the records were ready to be mailed. Months passed with no good news from Raw Head Records. In August 2018, we learned the label was over. We had to take over the bill if we wanted the records, but it was too expensive. We contacted various labels, and finally, Tankcrimes agreed to save the pressing. In November 2018, the records were shipped to us. We couldn't reprint the jackets with the Tankcrimes logo, so we used a clever sticker instead. The sticker worked well. We made these adjustments to the records before or after band practices. We like the DIY look of the sticker on the back cover. The record was finally released on February 8th, 2019, via Tankcrimes.

This is a great punk album for music lovers. To enjoy it, just pop the vinyl into your record player and let the music play. When handling the vinyl, make sure your hands are clean to avoid leaving fingerprints or dirt on it. Store the vinyl in a cool, dry place to prevent warping. If you want to keep the album cover in good condition, avoid folding or bending it. The sticker on the back cover gives it a unique DIY style, so be careful not to damage it when you're moving the record around. Have a blast listening to this amazing punk album!
