For fans of bands like Lethal, Drive, Crimson Glory, Psychotic Waltz, and Jester's March. Inner Strength, a well - known progressive metal band, has an interesting origin. In 1986, in Long Island, NY, its earliest, lesser - known form emerged as a crossover hardcore/punk group. Some parts of this early version later resurfaced in NYHC notables such as Beyond and later Quicksand. After three demos and three years, founding vocalist Scott Oliva gathered a new stable lineup. By the fall of 1990, the band transformed into the progressive metal unit we remember today. Oliva was joined by drummer Joe Kirsch, and former Arioch members Justin Hosman on bass and Joe Marselle on guitar. Just a month later, this new lineup played its first show. Before the end of 1990, they entered the studio to record their debut, 'Within the Dream', which was released in early 1991. The 'Extra Strength' sessions followed to attract record labels, showing the band's more advanced approach to technical yet melodic metal. Years later, Divebomb Records is excited to present 'Within the Dream' as disc one of a three - disc series. It compiles the band's two 1991 demos, 'Within the Dream' and 'Extra Strength', along with two previously unreleased tracks from the 'Extra Strength' sessions. Remastered by Jamie King at The Basement Recording, the CD comes with a thick booklet full of memorabilia and part one of a retrospective interview with Scott Oliva and Joe Marselle.
