France-based prog-rock power trio Lizzard is on a mission to reclaim the creative and collaborative energy that has driven them for over a decade. Their fifth full-length album, 'Mesh', captures the vibrant, lightning-in-a-bottle optimism of the late '90s post-punk/art-rock scene and revitalizes it into something empowering, inspiring, and full of potential. Katy Elwell (UK/Drums), Mat Ricou (FR/Guitar & Vocals), and Will Knox (UK/Bass) first met in 2006. They quickly discovered they shared similar creative influences and a distinct musical vision. The trio aimed to create a contemporary rock sound that emotionally resonates with listeners while challenging them. The result is a heavy, hook-laden sound that's greater than the sum of its parts. Their 2007 self-produced mini-album 'Venus', produced by Rhys Fulber, caught the attention of progressive rock fans, labels, and peers. This underground success led to Lizzard supporting acts like Gojira and Punish Yourself in France. They then went to L.A. to work with Rhys Fulber on their 2012 debut album, 'Out of Reach', which established them as a poly-rhythmic powerhouse. Subsequent European tours and shows with stoner-metal legends High On Fire and iconic fusion drummer Terry Bozzio helped Lizzard expand their audience and refine their sound. Their 2014 live-recorded and self-produced sophomore album, 'Majestic', showcases their remarkable musicianship, being darker, deeper, and rawer than ever. After hundreds of shows across Europe and the US, the band returned to the studio in 2018 to work on 'Shift' with producer Peter Junge. They then hit the road with prog heroes like ORK and The Pineapple Thief. In 2020, the pandemic halted Lizzard's momentum. But they were already working on their fourth full-length album, 2021's 'Eroded', recorded with Peter Junge and released on Pelagic Records. Despite the lack of live performances at first, they toured Europe in Autumn 2022 opening for Soen and had their own headline tour in Spring 2023. They also reinterpreted 'Eroded' as an intimate short film recorded in isolation. 'Mesh', recorded in the abandoned factory they use as a creative base and produced by Peter Junge, unleashes the raw, spontaneous power of their live sound through studio precision. Themes of duality and control run throughout the album. 'Black Sheep' explores the dichotomy of body and mind, while 'Mad Hatters' questions those in charge of society. The epic album closer, 'The Beholder', showcases the reinvigorated Lizzard at their best, ending as it starts in a closed loop, leaving a lasting impression of a poignant conclusion and a bright new beginning.
