Details
Brant Bjork has been at the heart of Californian desert rock for over a quarter-century. He started by drumming and composing on the legendary early albums of Kyuss and later drove the classic fuzz sound of Fu Manchu from 1994 to 2001. In 2024, the Brant Bjork Trio, featuring Mario Lalli, an old friend and a key figure in desert rock (from bands like Yawning Man, Fatso Jetson, and Desert Sessions) on bass guitar, and Ryan Güt, an alumnus of the Brant Bjork band, on drums, is releasing a major full-length LP on Brant's newly relaunched DUNA RECORDS label. Titled 'Once Upon A Time In The Desert', this new release is the fruit of a long - standing collaborative friendship among Bjork, Lalli, and Güt. The power trio recorded the tracks at Donner & Blitzen studios in Southern California with Mathias Shneeberger, a long - time collaborator. The music they create together is a heavy, flowing groove - a true organic desert rock & roll. These veteran musicians helped shape the genre, and this record perfectly captures the pure, heavy, and grooving essence of So Cal desert blues. The track listing includes 'U.R. Free', 'Backin’ The Daze', 'Higher Lows', 'Down The Mountain', 'Magic Surfer Magazine', 'Sunshine Is Makin’ Love To Your Mind', 'Rock And Roll In The Dirt', 'Astrological Blues / Southern California Girl', and 'Do You Got Some Fire'. The album is produced by Brant Bjork and Mario Lalli. Brant Bjork handles guitar and vocals, Mario Lalli plays bass guitar, and Ryan Güt is on drums. Mathias Schneeberger engineered and mixed the album, which was recorded at Donner and Blitzen Studios in Crestline, California. All songs are written by Brant Bjork, with Dune Boogie Tunes BMI holding the copyright in 2024. The front cover art is by Ricardo Diseno, inside photos are by Mario Lalli, the album layout is by Mario Lalli, and it's distributed by Cobraside Distribution.
