Discover the 'Viaticum' gatefold LP from Darkend. This album emerges from the sacred expanse beyond duality, cloaking its silent essence with the voices of ancient ceremonial chants, dungeon synth atmospheres, and sulphur - laden riffs etched on arcane metal designs. It seamlessly blends musical shades from Mercyful Fate to Dissection ('An Incautious Exhumation Of What Lies Beneath Forgotten Ground'), and from Dead Can Dance ('In Your Multitude') to Arvo Pärt ('In My Multitude'). It offers an immersive and cathartic journey into the deepest recesses of our true selves. Darkend is led by Animae, who has also been a guest vocalist for GAAHL’S WYRD at various European festivals and venues. Initially inspired by orchestral extreme metal, Darkend has crafted a unique artistic style. It combines black metal patterns, ritualistic ambience, dark classic metal riffs and solos in the vein of Mercyful Fate/Angel Witch, creating a ritualistic and hypnotic aura for profound sonic and spiritual transcendence. The band has toured Europe three times with bands like CRADLE OF FILTH, ROTTING CHRIST, SAMAEL, MELECHESH, and KEEP OF KALESSIN. They've had the honor of collaborating with scene - renowned artists. Attila Csihar (MAYHEM), Niklas Kvarforth (SHINING), and Sakis Tolis (ROTTING CHRIST) lent their voices to 'The Canticle Of Shadows' (2016, Non Serviam Records), and the friendship between Gaahl and Animae led to a stunning collaboration with WARDRUNA’s Lindy - Fay Hella on the album 'Spiritual Resonance' (2019, Dark Essence Records). Darkend has an intense live performance record, with a standout exhibition at the iconic Norwegian MIDGARDSBLOT FEST 2022 alongside WARDRUNA, HELIUNG, and ROTTING CHRIST, an experience not to be missed.
